Just to update everyone on our travels. We arrived in Cape Town two days and tomorrow we head off to the interior to begin our safari. We were lucky enough to get rooms in the Cape Town Hollow Boutique hotel which is just marvellous. It has that old world elegance about it while still having modern amenities. Our room has a gorgeous view of the gardens below and it is really something to stay here. Cape Town itself is a lovely city and there is quite a bit to do here. We could stay here another week and still not see and do everything this wonderful city offers. Still, despite all there is to see and do in the city I have to admit that coming back to our hotel and relaxing in the lap of luxury is my favourite part of the day. It is such a quietly comfortable place I’m glad we decided to stay here.
As part of my job, I very often do what they call fly-ins on luxury cruise ships. All cruise lines have onboard entertainment but on longer cruises they need to fly extra entertainers in. I was flown in on two Mauritius cruises this year and I was allowed to take one person with me. I took my twenty two year old daughter. Although she had been in America for four years, she had never been to a real island before and she could not wait. However, she was so disappointed because she did not expect a harbour. Mauritius is so big and so developed that it did not feel like a real island to her. We took a catamaran to one of the smaller islands that fitted her view of what an island should be but I would love to take her to one of the Lanzarote retreats for a real exotic island experience.

About six weeks ago I moved from living as an expat in Paris to Marseilles in the south of France. It’s quite a different experience and I am 100 times happier down here in the south.
For starters, the food is so much better. I’m not a huge fan of French food but here in Marseilles the most popular cuisine is not French but North African. That’s includes delicious Moroccan breakfast meals to Tunisian and Algerian specialities for lunch and dinner. Even the North African desserts are incredible.
Next improvement is the weather. This goes without saying really because Paris is cool, overcast and gloomy most of the time. Not to mention it rains all year long. Here in Marseilles the sun is always shining, it’s warm and it only rains in winter. Perfect really.
Lastly on why I think Marseilles is better than Paris – the people. The people are warm, open and friendly. Everything that Parisians are not.

When I travel next month to New Zealand I think I want to do something different for a change. Instead of getting a taxi ride to my hotel like I always do I have been considering getting a New Zealand rental car the next time I fly in because I would love to go exploring around the city when I am not stuck in a business meeting. I should get online to find a place to book a car in the area because I am looking forward to driving myself around for a change. I have not been to every single room at the Mirage Hotel Las Vegas. In actual sense I have only slept or used only one room in the Mirage Hotel. This is the penthouse suite and though I spent only three nights there it felt like forever. I only realize how short three nights where when I left Las Vegas to my base in New York. I wish I had stayed longer, the next time I visit the Mirage I will ensure that my meeting is at least a week long. And how is the penthouse suite? Beautiful, stunning room. Stunning view. Surely the best hotel room I have ever stayed. I wished I have stayed longer. Housekeeping is first-class, everything is flawless. The only slight let down was the shower cubicle – which was a bit dark and doesn’t quite match the style and quality of the rest of the suite.But in general it is a unique place to stay.

Ireland is such a charming little country. I have been watching movies that depict scenes of Irish country sides, drinking games, and fights that break out over soccer matches.
